This makes me sick

Heather Armstrong aka dooce.  What's going on with her chin?  I don't remember her looking like that.

Click here to read her interview with HGTV about her new ::groan:: TV deal.  I could go point-by-point and tear her a new glorious shithole, but I think the one question and answer I had the most problem with is this one:
PD: Do you feel like you're always working?
Dooce: I am always, always, always working. I don't ever take a break. It's a bit of a marathon. It's a great lifestyle, I don't ever take a vacation. Like we went to Florida a year and a half ago and I published every day of it.
Now, I hadn't visited her site* in well over a year, but I was interested in seeing what kind of daily content she was posting that makes what she does so much different than what the rest of us are doing.  What makes it "work" for her and a hobby for us.   So I took a look, and I spent the requisite 10 minutes to find out.

Is she trying to tell us that posting one picture a day or a brief rundown of the mundane events in her daily life takes more than 15 minutes a day?  C'mon!  To be fair, I don't know what kind of "work" goes into her associated online presence.  Twitter, maintaining her site, moderating comments, juggling advertisers, her book deal, her TV deal...I just don't know.  And I don't have the energy to find out.  But her answer made it seem like the "work" she is doing (even on vacation!!!) has to do with what she publishes every day.

And, seriously, what she publishes every day isn't that fucking great.  It shouldn't take much more than a few minutes a day.  You know...like what the rest of us do.  I read dozens of blogs every day that are more interesting and more well-written than hers, and I bet you that not one of them considers what they do to be work.  Feh.

*I hesitate to call it a blog because blogging, for me, is an interactive exercise.  She frequently closes comments on her posts and she never responds personally to any.  And I don't know what kind of comment moderation she has going (I won't be joining the dooce Community just to find out, thank you very much), but I haven't seen one negative comment in the posts where she actually has comments activated.  That's a little weird, because everyone I know hates her.

I've never understood the big deal about her. Her blog is boring! I guess it's like anything in the media: who ya know an who ya blow.

Word verification for this comment:

SPUSS

I like that. Her blog is spuss.

I don't think I ever heard of her. Talk about things being "relative".

i actually really like her site. (well, i should say past tense: LIKED. i did before you had to join up and all that horseshit.)
most of the haters are completely jealous that she's popular and gets paid to do what so many bloggers want to do. i can see not going to her site, not reading at all, but the blind fury because someone is successful at marketing themselves is crazy. there are people who hate brad pitt because he is attractive, wealthy and banging angelina, but i am not one of them either.
am i making any sense here? probably not. i need coffee.

the picture is all like "that means you AND your little dog too! Ah hah hah hah hah hah my pretty..."

I'd never heard of her either. I could use a New York Times bestseller and a TV deal too. But you are right about the chin - like it's been put in a vice and re-located (ouch!)

Steph - a whole stinkin' bowl of spuss.

RW - Well, she's not my cup o' whiskey, that's for sure.

Becky - I'm not jealous of her popularity or wealth. I settled in comfortably with my freaky and small readership a long time ago. And you will never see ads on my blog, but that's just how I roll. No, my problem with her is that she is boring and full of shit and she often is asked to speak for our little demographic. Or mommy bloggers. Whatever. I just don't see it.

RW - Right?!?

Wabbit - I loment her chin. ;)

i didn't mean that YOU were jealous of her, i was saying so many of her haters are. you, my friend, seem very comfortable with you. and that is an awesome thing.

i've never heard of this woman's blog before. I can't remember her name now that i'm all the way down here commenting.

so

yes, i am sure one can make a million dollars doing what we do but so what? I can make a million dollars doing a lot of things.

i'm all for quality and originality. and hearing the blogger's voice. that, my bloggy blog friend, is priceless!

the only time i have EVER heard of this chick is when you've ranted about her.

which tells me that i am way to important to be bothered with her, and that you desperately want her.

p.s. word of the day is vinglypa. that sounds dirty.

B.E. Earl said...

Becky - Oh, I know what you meant. I was just clarifying. Nice new red hair, by the way. ;)

Holly - I'm surprised so many folks haven't heard of her. She's often the first name mentioned when any news outlet talks about blogging.

Slyde - You are MUCH to important to be bothered with the likes of her. Now go watch High School Musical again!

Sounds like someone's a little jealous.

Have you thought about asking her to touch daddy's dick?

Hiya Earl! I see your comments on my son's blogs and he sent me this link because he knows I am somewhat fascinated by the Dooce. When I found her blog, I went back and read the oldest posts and I have to say she has a style which (for good or bad) has influenced the blogging style of thousands if not hundreds of thousands. Because of that, it sometimes sounds not-so-fresh any more but she IS the mother of it, I think.
I'm not sure why she gets the recognition and deals she gets but she does and I think she probably has worked hard to get them. And that is not to be dismissed. She used to talk more about her disdain of the Mormon religion she was raised in but she seems to have let that one go. I loved those posts.
But I will tell you the popular blog that makes me want to crack a head open is Pioneer Woman. If you want to truly be sickened, check that one out. Although, in the interest of fairness, I will say the woman takes gorgeous pictures of her gorgeous children.

It looks like someone dropped a "dooce" on her chin !

(yeah, I can talk)

B.E. Earl said...

Doggie - I don't want her to touch daddy's dick.

Ms. Moon - Heya! Those are good points. Maybe she was interesting and relevant back in the day. I only checked out her last month or so and I found it to be tedious and boring. But to each their own. I think my biggest problem with her is her one-way conversation skills. She is talking to us, not with us. Pioneer Woman, eh? I don't know if I dare. :)

B.E. Earl said...

Heff - Welcome back, my man!

Slyde said...

hah! you spelled "to" wrong.

loser.

B.E. Earl said...

Slyde - You've been waiting for that for a long time, eh? Must have felt like a really good shit.

Bruce said...

I have to announce my ignorance to the world and state that I have no idea of 'uber-chin' is. Never heard of her and scrolling through her blog simply screams 'mundane'. Who really gives a shit?

B.E. Earl said...

Bruce - I'm actually surprised at the number of comments here from folks who haven't heard of her. I thought everyone knew (and hated) dooce.

LegalMist said...

I don't actually hate her. I haven't read her blog in ages because I thought she seemed a little self-absorbed when I did read it. In fairness, some of the posts were interesting, but mostly I was bored.

Not that I do a lot better some days. And I don't try to write every day, either. I have a lot of respect for those of you who have something interesting to say nearly every day.

Dooce just wasn't one of those bloggers, for me.

sybil law said...

Dooce - Douche.

B.E. Earl said...

LM - "self-absorbed" is a good description of her.

Sybile - Touche! (I can never figger out how to do those damn accent marks in comments!)

Just imagine the discomfort of that chin if you engaged her in the 69 position....

B.E. Earl said...

Jimmy - A scar is born. ;)

A NEW PHOTO CAUSE GODDAMMIT EARL!!

That woman is NOT attractive!!

Steph said...

Uh, Slyde. You misspelled "to" first... Sorry dude.

WV: pards.

Pards, man.

B.E. Earl said...

Holly - new post up!

Steph - You fucking rule!

Avitable said...

I've always thought she got famous for getting fired. BFD. She's not funny and she's kind of a bitch. I'm done wasting any more brain power as of . . . now.

B.E. Earl said...

Avitable - I'm joining you as of...now.

Kaylen said...

I would like to be paid to go on vacations and blog once a day and call it "work." That's the kind of work I dream of.

But I'm slightly worried if that ever happened, which it won't because I'm more boring than her, but if it did, I'm sure I'd see my picture on here and Slyde would be a-hatin on my big forehead.
So I'm not going to become famous. Then we don't have to feel awkward around each other.

marty mankins said...

While I would love to meet other bloggers here in Salt Lake City, I seriously doubt that Heather Armstrong (dooce) would ever show up to meet with any small time bloggers like myself.

If she did and if she were able to hang with less popular bloggers and not appear to have an air about her (as I've seen her have in other settings), then I will change my tune.

Now that you mentioned her chin, I can't stop staring at it!

When I was new to blogging, I read her site a little because it seemed that EVERYONE was reading it. So it had to be good, right? Somewhere along the way I lost interest. Then I tried to go back and there were ads everywhere and I couldn't leave comments. Forget that. Haven't been back since.
