Carry moonbeams home in a jar

Have any of you heard of the Internet dating (?) site with the oh-so-sweet sounding name called The Ashley Madison Agency? Me neither, but that's not too hard to believe since I have my head firmly stuck up my ass most of the time.

I first started hearing about it a few weeks ago as radio ads on The Opie and Anthony Show on XM Radio. Maybe because it was a radio ad...the easiest form of advertisement to ignore...but I didn't actually pay attention to what the site is all about until just a few days ago.

It's basically a personals/dating site for married or committed folks who want to cheat on their significant other.

Their tagline is "Life is short. Have an affair."

I guess it was only a matter of time before some entrepreneurial group of individuals created something like this. Maybe Craig's List just wasn't cutting it for some people.

Personally, this sickens me. I guess if you have an open relationship and both individuals agree to the specifics of the deal, then fooling around with someone outside of your partnership is okay. But clearly, those folks aren't the target demographic of this site. At least according to the advertising, which states that it is designed for discreet relationships.

Sure there is money to be made with an operation such as this. There are also hearts to be broken. I guess if you are planning on cheating or thinking about cheating then this is just a tool that you would use like a singles bar, a business trip or those back-of-the-magazine ads. Something you would have done anyway. I dunno...something really bothers me about it though.

I hope these bottom-feeding assholes sleep well at night, and I hope that their parents use the site to break the hearts of their loved ones. That's how I enjoy my irony.

PS - Everyone give a warm round of applause to Lizzie for beating out yours truly in Ookami Snow's contest. Way to go, Liz!

Yer a sweetie! We all know you should have won.

NOW - as for this website - those jackasses. I should go on there and then have people exposed for what they really are. We could start a movement.

Funny - one time wayyy back in the blog days of moxy and green fish *sigh* - we all met up at a pub and when people ask how our motley crew came to meet-- we told them through blogging. Evidently, blogging is not something everyone is familiar with and they thought we were swingers. So naturally we toyed with their perverted little minds. Twas fun.

There's a website for people that want to cheat?!

That's disgusting!

Not just referring to the people that created and host the site but the people that log on and use the services.

xx

since i have XM satellite radio, i listen to opie and anthony regularly, and i have heard this commercial for months..

i couldnt beleive it, so about a month ago a bunch of us here at work went to the site to check it out... i agree its pretty disgusting (and they wouldnt accept my credit card.. Zing!)...

I actually did some research on Ms. Martin... shes an aspiring actress who actually had some decent credits to her resume, before she started up this shitty site....

Liz - I betcha somebody is already working on exposing these assholes.

Elise - if you are gonna cheat, you are gonna find a way. I have more of a problem with the creeps who are making cheating easier.

Slyde - Is the website the same person as the actress? She's dating James Woods now, I think. Young, blonde actress. I hope he cheats on her.

There was a story on this agency on NPR a few weeks ago. I listened to it and thought, so what, the world is spriling down the toilet (coutner clockwise in Austrailia). Then I thought, way to go NPR, free advertising for cheaters.

This sort of thing has been around for a while, only now it is more structured. The real sadness, is that young folks see and hear about this and it becomes ingrained in their concept of normalcy. Having an affair is 'normal'....they even have agencies that will help you do it.

I miss facism sometimes.

Lotus - Ah, the good ole' days!

Why can't they just go to a high class escort service like everyone else?

"Gov. Spitzer, call on line 3."

Verdant Earl said...

Limpy - Yeah, but there is a better chance of meeting a psychopath this way. On the other hand, there are STDs. Too many choices to consider! ;(

This makes me so glad I am FIRMLY single (as in not in a relationship and don't want to be because of all the crappy people out there).
