Old Clothes

I think I'm gonna make this dish this weekend.

It's a Spanish/Caribbean dish called Ropa Vieja (old clothes).  When it's done well it is one of my favorite things to order at a good Spanish restaurant.  Basically, it is a shredded braised beef dish with onions, peppers and spices that is usually served over saffron rice.  The shreds of beef, onion and pepper might remind someone of shredded up old rags, or so the story goes.  Or the name could come from the original recipe which called for leftover beef.  I dunno and I don't care.  It's delicious!

My mouth is watering just thinking about it right now.  And that picture doesn't do it justice.

I found a decent recipe for it on Epicurious and I want to give it a go.  I'll let you know how it all turns out on Monday.

Sounds good, except for the onions, pepers, spices, and rice.

Avitable - "these are a few of my favorite things" - sung

2abes - I'll bring it to Slyde's house. He likes to eat early. So let's say 7AM on Sunday, okay?

Harumph! I mean, YUM. Now I know what to do with some of my old clothes if I don't feel like dumping them off at the Salvation Army bin. Dinner!

I hope it tastes better than it looks too...

I thought of you last night when I goit back full of champagne and dog tired, knowing your fondness for bacon. My late night snack:

2 slices granary bread, toasted and generously buttered.
2 rashers bacon, done just so.
1 large organic egg, cracked and tossed into pan with bacon. Then break the yolk and spread it about, thus making a semi-omelette. Grind generaous amount of pepper over egg.
Slap bacon and egg between slices. Cut toasted sandwich in half and eat.

Yummy!!!

Wabbit - the only thing missing was a little cheese or maybe a sliced tomato. Yum!
