But now that we are "home" we are ready to go right back.
As I mentioned over the weekend, we are planning to relocate down there and I think we would like to do it sooner rather than later.
That means looking for gainful (heh) employment and finding a place to live. Frankly, the second part seems like it won't be that difficult. We looked at a bunch of houses while we were down there and the costs for homes down there are soooo much cheaper than they are on Long Island. Frighteningly cheaper. And there seems to be a ton of housing available right now in the greater Charleston area. Of course, we have to thoroughly research each neighborhood. WE want to be the odd neighbors, not the other way around.
So it's kinda exciting.
Now...anyone out there in the Charleston area wanna hire me? I prefer to set my own hours and work in my pajamas. That's not gonna be a problem, right?

LI prices are kinda ridiculous. We figured out our little $275,000 bungalow here in suburban Chicago wouldn't go for less than 4 over by there. And depending where it was - even more.
I'm surprised about Charleston though. I suppose it's fantastic when family and friends are there because a lot of it is very nice looking. But without connections I'd get a little queasy with the politics.
I hear they really like lipstick on pigs down thar. You know, a sound bite with a naughty librarian wardrobe. And frankly. yes, I always felt we should have let the South go if it wanted. Three fourths of what makes us look silly to the rest of the world would be somebody else's problem.
RW - We looked at this one 5-bedroom monstrosity. Almost new, pool in the backyard, private cul-de-sac, gated community, on a freakin' golf course. And it was listed for $290k. The house and property alone would go for upwards of $600k in a similar community up here, and maybe add another $250k for being on a beautiful golf course. It's sickening.
There is more of a liberal feel than I thought there would be down there. Not the machine...that's Old South conservative. But it's changing. Lots of northerners have moved there and are moving there every day. Just about everyone we met was from someplace else. Mostly from up north.
You'll just have to start your own business. I'm sure there's a market in South Carolina for a drunken Santa.
will you miss the shoveling? the boats? the proximity to NYC?
I'll miss hearing about it.
Can't wait till you start posting about your new adventures down south :)
you're not fucking going anywhere...
Adam - Well, Gia's folks have already moved down there. So I think her Dad has cornered the market on the Drunk Santa scene.
Holly - I'll miss NYC, not the snow. And they have boats down there. ;)
Slyde - not without prior consent from you, of course.
Um, if someone hires you under those conditions, will you get them to hire me, too? Thanks.
Sybil - I'm also willing to be worked naked. For a premium, of course.
nicely done you! of course, all the hurricanes miss us and hit charleston, but you should be fine! (have you guys looked at homes near/on waterways? that's where the prices jumpthehell up!) xoxoxox
I'm up for a job doing bugger all for huge amounts of money. Keep an eye out would you?
:D
Savannah - the house we really love is near Shem Creek in Old Mt. Pleasant, but it's probably a little beyond our means right now. Yeah...anything on or near the water is much more expensive.
Damn.
