She was so done. I stayed up with her all of Saturday and Sunday nights. Giving her little bits of water and cream...anything to get her to eat or drink something. Then on Sunday she pretty much stopped eating and drinking altogether. On Sunday night she started crawling herself around, maybe looking for a way out. Or a quiet place to lay down and die. Of course our other cats were having none of that. "Where you going? Can I come? Hey, that looks like a fun nook to hide in!" Yeah...our cats often will leave a preposition at the end of a sentence.
So she feel asleep at the bottom of the landing of the staircase. I stayed with her until she fell asleep, but it was already 5:30AM on Monday by that point. I went to bed to catch a couple of hours of sleep, figuring that she would be gone by the time I got up.
But she wasn't. She wasn't really moving either. Just laying there...breathing. Barely recognizing us. It was time. So we called the Vet and said our goodbyes.
Here's my favorite picture of her with her best friend Syd...who passed away 2 years ago.

ooft. hugs. hugs. hugs. hugs. hugs. hugs. and more hugs.
I'm gutted for you. There isn't a day goes by that I don't remember Buffy, and she went 18 months ago. You've got a lot of great memories, but I know that's not helping right now. I'm just... y'know. Sorry. x
I am so sorry, sugar! Badgerdaddy is right, gutted is the only way to express the feeling of loss and sadness. Big hugs for you and Gia. xoxoxxo
I'm so sorry. {{{Hugs}}}
My condolences on your loss.
Sad day Earl. Sorry to hear the news. You did the right thing.
Awww, I'm sorry, man. RIP Sammi.
Sorry to hear it man.
That's a sad post, spare and raw. Sympathies.
She's in a better place. Hugs to you!
Thanks everyone!
i wasnt going to weigh in before, but i can now say that you absolutely did the right thing.
one of the worst things to see is an animal, especially a loved animal, suffer.
next time i see you im giving you a deep tongue kiss and crotch grab.
Awww - she was very well loved. It was time.

Sorry for your loss, man.
Been out of the loop for a while, trying to catch up. Not the best thing to read once I got back. Condolences. Losing a cat is tough (assuming you are a cat person). I still vividly recall when I put my first cat down.....the house seemed strangely empty when I returned from the vet.
Bruce - we have three more cats, but they are still young kids. 2 years old or younger. So the house isn't totally empty. They know something is up too. Our big cat (Avery) keeps sniffing and looking everywhere for Sammi. It's kinda cute...and sad.
My deepest sympathies, friend.
Such a tough decision to make. We've done it twice now, and it sucks. So sorry.
I am so very sorry for your loss. Our kitties give you and Syd kisses as consolation, we humans give you hugs for the same.
<3 to u Sammi, Little Kitty wants you to come play.
I'm so sorry... it is so hard when our little friends are just "done." But it sounds like you handled it perfectly, and I am sure Sammi felt the love all the way to the end.
She was a beautiful cat (and so was Syd).
Sadness. From one cat owner to another... HUGS
