Rolling in the Deep
Adele
There's a fire starting in my heart,
Reaching a fever pitch and it's bringing me out the dark.
Finally, I can see you crystal clear,
Go ahead and sell me out and I'll lay your ship bare,
See how I'll leave with every piece of you,
Don't underestimate the things that I will do.
There's a fire starting in my heart,
Reaching a fever pitch and it's bring me out the dark.
The scars of your love remind me of us,
They keep me thinking that we almost had it all.
The scars of your love, they leave me breathless,
I can't help feeling,
We could have had it all,
(You're gonna wish you never had met me),
Rolling in the deep,
(Tears are gonna fall, rolling in the deep)
You had my heart inside of your hand,
(You're gonna wish you never had met me)
And you played it to the beat.
(Tears are gonna fall, rolling in the deep)
Baby, I have no story to be told,
But I've heard one on you and I'm gonna make your head burn,
Think of me in the depths of your despair,
Making a home down there as mine sure won't be shared,
The scars of your love remind me of us,
(You're gonna wish you never had met me)
They keep me thinking that we almost had it all.
(Tears are gonna fall, rolling in the deep)
The scars of your love, they leave me breathless,
(You're gonna wish you never had met me)
I can't help feeling,
(Tears are gonna fall, rolling in the deep)
We could have had it all,
(You're gonna wish you never had met me)
Rolling in the deep.
(Tears are gonna fall, rolling in the deep)
You had my heart inside of your hand,
(You're gonna wish you never had met me)
And you played it to the beat.
(Tears are gonna fall, rolling in the deep)
Could have had it all,
Rolling in the deep,
You had my heart inside of your hand,
But you played it with a beating.
Throw your soul through every open door,
Count your blessings to find what you look for.
Turn my sorrow into treasured gold,
You'll pay me back in kind and reap just what you've sown.
(You're gonna wish you never had met me)
We could have had it all,
(Tears are gonna fall, rolling in the deep)
We could have had it all.
(You're gonna wish you never had met me),
It all, it all, it all.
(Tears are gonna fall, rolling in the deep)
We could have had it all,
(You're gonna wish you never had met me)
Rolling in the deep.
(Tears are gonna fall, rolling in the deep
You had my heart inside of your hand,
(You're gonna wish you never had met me)
And you played it to the beat.
(Tears are gonna fall, rolling in the deep)
Could have had it all,
(You're gonna wish you never had met me)
Rolling in the deep.
(Tears are gonna fall, rolling in the deep)
You had my heart inside of your hand,
(You're gonna wish you never had met me
But you played it,
You played it,
You played it,
You played it to the beat.

the righteous swells of a woman scorned . . . good stuff :)
No need for any of those tone-corrector microphones on this one.
Holly - indeed.
RW - I'm really digging this throwback stuff that artists like Adele are putting out lately. Fuck auto-tune!
Oh this is my jam!
I know you dont watch The Voice, but my fav fav favorite chic did this song for her audition and blew it away.
Love Adele, her look, her voice, all of her.
Annabelle - No, I don't watch The Voice, but that's pretty cool that your fave sang this one.
I love that one!
Great song by a great singer. I've met her once before when she was touring for her first album "19" Wonderful person. And obviously very talented.
To me she sounds so obviously influenced, even more so than the originals in this style, by Beth Ditto from the Gossip.
Suzi - me too!
Marty - That's very cool.
Hank - yeah, I dunno. I can hear what you are saying, and I dig Beth Ditto in a big way. I think you are right about this song in particular. Other songs, not so much. Not a bad influence either way.
I was gonna pass this one by, but if downtown guy meant that as a put-down then his comment is very specious. At that rate nobody tries anything anymore. besides, that's what Ebert said about quite a few flicks, so Downtown guy isn't half as good as the originals in his style.
RW - Well, I didn't read it as a putdown. But what the hell do I know. I dig both Adele and Beth Ditto so it's all jake to me. Flame on, kids!
(Just kidding...this is a no flame zone)
Huh? It wasn't any kind of insult. I've been into the Gossip since quite literally their first tour. Beth is not a stranger to me (we ran in the same scene for quite some time). I find it cool that she is obviously influencing the vocal styles of new singers, after putting on great shows for more than a decade and getting some much deserved fame in England. Not sure how comparing a singer to Beth freakin' Ditto could ever be considered a putdown anyway.
Hank - Yeah, that's what I thought. Especially since I already knew about your connection to Beth.
True true.
