Music Video Fridays - silly edition

Every once in a while you just need the silly. You know what I mean? Of course you do. Let's get silly.

I think just about everyone I know loved There's Something About Mary, and we all loved the ending credits montage of The Foundations singing "Build Me Up Buttercup" nearly as much. I don't think I'm the first guy who fell a little in love with Sarah Silverman because of her role in this film and her sad lip syncing of "...and you never call baby when you say you will" in the video here. Sigh. Don't worry Sarah. Daddy's here.

I posted this spoofed version of Danzig's "Mother" a while ago, but it always worth a repeat viewing. I mean the original was pretty funny anyways because of how serious the diminutive Glenn Danzig takes himself. This, however, takes it to eleven.

The next piece of silliness is a music video that actually killed a rock star's career. No one knows what Billy Squier was thinking when he made the video for "Rock Me Tonite", but 20 years later I think we can all agree that it is awesome with a capital A. Wait...I meant awful with a capital A. Same thing. Check out his shirt-ripping move at the 1:30 mark. Genius. I posted this one before as well, about a year ago. With some bonus stories of Slyde in Key West. It was a whole gay thing. Check it out.

That's all I can take for tonight. My sides are still aching from that last one.

Ohhhh, Billlllyyyyyy!!

PS - I've already posted 2 out of these 3 videos? For shame on me. New content next week. That is my pledge - Earl

hahahahaha.... I remember that Billy Squier video. I swear he's a Richard Simmons look-alike with that frizzy hair and those dance moves!!

Hoy Crap! I had totally forgotten about that video. I can't believe he was dancing like that. Those are the gayest, most embarrasing dance moves I have ever seen. I thought he was supposed to be a rocker, but he looked more like Madonna sliding around on the floor. Thanks for laugh.

Even though I completely hated that movie (I know, blaspheme), "Build Me Up, Buttercup" makes me happy first thing in the morning.

Mmmmm hmmmm.

ok three thoughts ;)

1. Buttercup-OH MY GOD!!! I had not seen this before, so awesome, omg brett, and lots of other crazy people, i loved the jail scene, i need a screen still of this for my HEY NURSE series, and I thought it was creepy what you wrote about sarah silverman and the 'daddy's here' line UNTIL I saw it the vid. and yes, i see what you mean. man she is a babe.

2. did you know danzig has action figures- aka dolls- they sell for 300 + dollars. no joke. and prententious rocks stars need a good beating once in a while.

3. THE last video was just pure awesomeness. holy shit!!! does he realize how um, gay he looks?? prancing around.

good stuff earl!!!

off to work now, won't be able to view the vids at work.

so funny!!!

:)

I think that's probably exactly where my Sarah Silverman obsession started. I don't know if I'd seen the Danzig one before, but that was hilarious.

Legal - Richard Simmons is way more butch than Squier in that video. ;)

Chaka - Madonna is way more butch than Squier in that video. ;)

Michelle - I love that song too.

Becky - LOL.

Becky - I can't believe that I just LOLed in a remarq.

Becky - Gah! I used a q in remarq. (That was kinda fun)

Hilly - Blasphemy! But anything to make you happy first thing in the morning. ;)

Holly - Danzig was really into comic books and such. He even had his own where he was the hero. I'm not surprised he has his own action figures.

Verdant Earl said...

Avitable - I think that's where it started for a lot of us. Yummy Sarah. Yummy SINGLE Sarah.

I'm a bit of a Misfits fan, so part of me still thinks Glenn Danzig is cool but... That's some pretty funny shit.

MOTHER!!!!!!

lol

and it's like they couldn't afford to hire a choreographer for the billy squire video...
"ok, Billy. We're just going to pan back and you just dance, okay?"
"yeah, but i don't know how to dance."
"What!? are you kidding me? i saw you snap your fingers earlier today at the craft table... it was killer! just do that."
"...just snap?"
"yeah, y'know. snapping, maybe crawl around on the floor, i hear that works... maybe skip about... OOH OOH! Y'know what would be TOTALLY BUTCH!? if you Ripped your shirt! Yeah!"
"....rip my shirt?"
"Yeah, it'll look so macho after you've been lounging in your silk sheeted bed with no frame. very sexy."
"....allllllright...."

except that it was probably backwards...Billy putting all his manly ideas out there.

the best part is that after his feats of strength ripping his shirt off, (strike a pose) is that he replaces the ripped shirt with an EVEN GAYER peach coloured tank top with knots on the side. Seriously, i come for the machismo, i stay for the prancing.

... you could totally change the title of your blog...

The Verdant Dude... Come for the Machismo, Stay for the Prancing.

...you're welcome. ;)

Dude, that parody of "Mother" is almost as hilarious as the original !!! I've always found that song humorous.

Verdant Earl said...

badger - the Misfits were cool, but Danzig himself has always been a little humorous.

Diva - if only I had thought of it myself first. ;)

Heff - I know. The original is hilarious on its own.

Something About Mary-one of the greatest comedic movies ever.

so many great moments from Matt Dillion's cheezy "Simon Cowell" teeth, to the hair gel and "franks and beans".

thanks for that.

Callie said...

You know - one of these days I'll have to actually see There's Something About Mary. Sadly, there's something about Cameron Diaz that just give me the wiggins.

Sadly, I'll have to wait until I get home to watch your videos. Evil work has blocked the feed site. Boo. :-(

The "Rock Me Tonight" video has reminded me that I haven't writhed on the floor is pure music ecstasy in awhile now.

Slyde said...

no, you werent the first person to fall in love with sarah...

that would be me..

Verdant Earl said...

Candy - I loved the "chompers" scene.

Callie - you definitely should watch that film. It's hysterical!

Ookami - you may need to remedy that.

Slyde - What? No mention of my re-mention of your gay Key West antics?

teeni said...

Holy crap - that Billy Squier one had me rolling on the floor! I never made the connection before but now it is unmistakeable - he and Richard Simmons have to not only be related but also share the same wardrobe choices.

whall said...

I don't remember which show it was... something about 80's and ballads or something... and they interviewed Billy Squier specifically about that video and how that one video ruined his career. It was "unforgivable" that he released it and he got squashed.

I think the same thing was said about Foreigner when they released their ballad ... can't remember which one. But oh, they were sorry they did it.

Verdant Earl said...

Teeni - you never did see the two of them in the same place at the same time. Hmmm.

Whall - "I Want to Know What Love Is"...was that it?

Mrs. Hall said...

I dare say I am not only going to steal the video but I am the diva's quotes for my own post.

because dammit, this is the internets, the wealth, it must be shared.

and i too come for the machismo and I stay for the prancing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
