Laundry

I like to do laundry.

Sounds weird, right?

But there is something about this monotonous task that really calms me. I did four load of laundry tonight while watching Survivor and Lost (on DVR). I like to fold clothes, and I'm really good at it too.

Before I had my own setup, I used to either drop my laundry off at the Wash 'N Fold or do my laundry myself at the same place. Whenever I did it myself, I was almost always complimented by some random woman about how well I fold clothes.

I fold clothes extremely well. Like a professional.  Seriously.

I started doing my own laundry when I was around ten. My mother worked and we had a big family, so it just became natural for me to do my own laundry. The only thing I hate doing is bedding. I hate washing and folding sheets.

But everything else, I excel at. Almost to a fault.

Because I don't mind it, I become the status quo laundry do-er. Normally that is just fine with me. I semi-enjoy it. But, of course, everyone occasionally would rather let someone else do the dirty work. And Gia steps up when that happens.

But it doesn't happen that often. Because I like doing the laundry.

Do you have an everyday, monotonous task that you enjoy doing?

i really like showering. REALLY i love showering. I do it early in the am, all alone. After, I work with my curly hair for a while. This is very very pleasing and involves anti-frizz creme, anti-frizz gel and mouse. Again, very pleasing.

Then the make up i put on- I use brushes and gently massage the powders on. So pleasent the brushes, so soft! It is so relaxing and feels so nice. I have really good brushes too. I have a brush that could honestly replace Mr. Hall for what it does to me. (almost)

The mascara though, it is ALWAYS when I am putting on mascara the scamper of little feet find me. This is the best part of the day, everyday :)

wait, that wasn't the question. ah whatever. good nuf!

:)

Here's one that tops it... I like to do the bills. It's crazy, I know, but it gives me a sense that things are under control and we're in good shape. Even when we're not.

You didn't say it had to make sense.

I too enjoy a good round of laundering. I also enjoy cleaning the edges of the TV screen with a Q-Tip, LOL. I am like OCD, and shit.

Masturbating. It doesn't even feel like a chore any more.

I used to really like housework. It was like meditation. I'd put on music and just go for it. But now I hate it all. I do it, but I hate it. Sometimes when I've had a lot of wine, and it's late at night, I like moving shit around. Books, chotchkies, vases. I used to like moving the furniture, too, but not anymore.

I am fanatic about keeping my laptop clean, though.

Wassup Earl?

Laundry and dishes. Two "de-stressers" that allow me to take my mind off of whatever I'm overanalyzing at the moment. Something enlightening about extracting joy and peace from such simple everyday tasks.

Great post.

Thank you, you just reminded me that I need to do laundry today!!

I do enjoy laundry too. I live in a big apartment building so we have a laundry "room". I put on my ipod and get into the laundry zone!! And I suck at folding but still....

I cannot fold a sheet. Can you??

mowing the lawn.....its my down time.....I have to try showering and maybe even putting on make-up. Holly makes it sound pretty good!

I'm a laundry guy too. Though I must say I enjoy it much more since we got our own washer and dryer in the house.

Holly - that does sound, um, pleasant.

RW - I can see that. Totally makes sense.

Wil - Wow! With a Q-Tip, eh?

badger - You are doing something wrong if you find it monotonous, dude.

Steph - the screen on my laptop is all smudgy. I suck.

WLC - I don't mind doing the dishes either.

Michelle - the fitted sheets aren't easy, but yeah...I can fold sheets.

2abes - I get a pass on mowing the lawn because of my allergies. Otherwise I would probably enjoy it.

Paticus - Oh, yeah. MUCH better with your own washer and dryer.

I like a man that does his own laundry. Props to the Mom on that one. Or the lack of Mom, maybe. Either way, it's refreshing. My man does his own laundry, too, though I end up doing all the extras like sheets, etc. Whatevs, at least I don't have to fold his clothes!

Have a lovely weekend.

I'm sorry, I'm still in shock over the fact that you LIKE to do laundry. I hate laundry. I mean, HATE it. Monotonous tasks I like to do? Does watching a SVU marathon while laying on the couch for 6 hours count?

Ookami Snow said...

I like cooking, but that's not really the same thing. I can't think of a task that I like to do that is in the same category.

I really don't like shaving though.

You & Wil Harrison and your Laundering. Hell, I can't stand it. Do mine.

Verdant Earl said...

Jenn - Well, I use a bunch of hangers too. But there is no skill in that. ;)

Holly - and I was just fucking around. Arguing for arguments sake.

Kate - good man there!

Faiqa - nothing monotonous about SVU at all. We have the last 4 or 5 episodes recorded and we will probably watch them in one sitting this weekend. Woot! Ahem.

Ookami - I hate shaving. If I were brave enough to post a pic of myself, you would see the results. I've had a beard of some sort for about 17-18 years now.

Heff - You want me handling Donna's underthings? Really?

Heff said...

On second thought, nevermind.

I love doing laundry. We joke that somewhere down the genetic line there must be some chinese thrown in there. I am also an expert folder which comes in quite handy when you are packing suitcases. There is nothing I can't get into a suitcase because of my mad folding skillz...Nothing is ever wrinkled either. It makes a huge difference.

We should swap notes someday.

I also get my cook on quite well.

I'm with RW. I like to do the bills.

Verdant Earl said...

Heff - thought you might reconsider.

Candy - I fold and then roll each item up when packing for a trip. Saves room and prevents wrinkling. I learned that from the first season of The Amazing Race. The gay couple who always looked wrinkle-free packed that way.

Avitable - I like sending out my own invoices. Does that count?

i like folding laundry, but hate putting the folded stuff away, it generally gets put back in the laundry basket... in neat little piles...

oh earl, i just read your defence of Pink Floyd, and i have to say:

I KNEW there was a reason i loved you!!

Just to let you know Earl, the comment you left on my blog today about Slyde had me laughing on and off for 20 minutes.

Diva - aw, shucks. ;)

Zibbs - It wasn't a joke. ;)

Laundry's not really my favourite. I can sort it and wash it and even get it in the dryer, but after that I hate it. I hate folding everything and putting it all away - JRK does that part for me!

Slyde said...

the only monotonous taks i do is to read this blog..

Verdant Earl said...

Liz - I've got the fever, baby!

Paige - it's the folding part that I enjoy.

Slyde - Taks? Taks? WTF is a taks? BWAH-HA-HA-HA-HA. I love it when you try to be a dick and misspell a four letter word. ;)

I got laundry if you want to do it? ;)

I´m with Ookers - cooking´s the thing...

Verdant Earl said...

WR - I love to cook too, but I don't find it monotonous like doing laundry. There is a certain amount of creativity involved.

I, too, am a laundry guy but I hate (and suck) at folding. However, I'm good with a steam iron. Can we work a trade?
