Music Video Fridays - AC/DC

Quite simply, I think that AC/DC is one of the greatest Rock & Roll bands ever to grace the airwaves. Hard rock, heavy metal...whatever you want to call them. They just bring it. I still have no idea how they were to become so successful after losing Bon Scott in 1980. Replacing him with Brian Johnson shouldn't have worked, but it did. In spades. And those two cats are two of the goofier lead vocalists in the history of Rock & Roll.

So sit back, enjoy...and turn this mother-fucker up!

The first video is from "High Voltage in 1976. It's called "Its a Long Way to the Top (If You Wanna Rock 'n' Roll)" and it features Bon Scott on bagpipes. A nice nod to the band's Scottish roots. He and the Young brothers were all born in Scotland and subsequently moved to Australia.

The next video is from 1976's "Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap", and it never fails to crack me up. But you will have to go to YouTube to watch the video for "Big Balls", because embedding has been disabled by request. Fuckers.

Watch it here.

The final video is from 1980's "Back in Black" featuring Brian Johnson on vocals for the first time since Bon Scott's death earlier in the year. "Rock and Roll Aint Noise Pollution" is easily my favorite from this great album that hardly has a clunker on it. This isn't really a video, but a montage of photos as the song plays. But I wanted something to embed, so this is what you get. Feh.

Agreed. We used to call it "It's a long way to the shop if you want a sausage roll" - I can't believe how deserted Swanston Street is in that video.

Verdant Earl said...

AK - I can't believe it either. Um, where the hell is Swanston Street?

"Whole Lotta Rosie" has to be their most underplayed great song. I'll take that over "For Those About To Rock" any day.

i agree 100%....great band

Great band...."Jailbreak" is one of my personal faves.

A great way to start the day. Thanks.
Gawd I love the rock in this band.

Ah....Preachin' to the choir, my friend. I've always called Ac/Dc "The Workin' Man's rock band". They have a product that works, and they've ALWAYS stuck to it. They were already on their way to the big-time with Highway To Hell. Brian Johnson got the break of a llifetime when Bon Scott O.D.'d, making the band even MORE popular. It's a damn good thing that EVERY track on Back In Black was good ! Personally, I think the album "Let There Be Rock" is best (Whole Lotta Rosie (studio version) is CLASSIC), with the "Powerage" album coming in at a close second.

Agree with all of the above.

When my boss pisses me off, Back in Black is the CD I plug into, and it works magic.

Limpy - you saw that I linked to it in my footnote, right? Great song.

2abes - They are a bunch of geezers now, but aren't we all?

Paticus - that one has an interesting story because, I think, it was released much earlier in Aus. than it was here.

Kate - They roll pretty good too.

Heff - For a while there, you couldn't go wrong with any of their albums. I always liked "Dirty Deeds..."

Callie - I generally like the Bon Scott stuff more than the Brian Johnson stuff, but you can't go wrong either way.

Love them. Although I liked Bon Scott better. I was in 10th grade when he died and we were like, "What the hell?"

Who thought they'd ever be able to find a replacement?

I can't recall the liner notes but did Bon actually play the pipes on this song or was he just posing in the vid? I am a Bon fan my own damn self. "Shot Down In Flames" is def one of my favs.

Zibbs - and then release the 2nd best-selling album of all-time? Crazy.

Wil - Oh, I don't know if he actually played them. I was going by what I saw in the video. Hang on...ok, I just found the liner notes to "T.N.T" which was the original album that it was featured on back in Australia and Bon Scott is listed as playing bagpipes. There you go. Very cool.

Love them. I also liked Joan Jett's (?) cover of Dirty Deeds. Is that blasphemy?

Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap -- a classic!

And Back In Black is still one of the best hard rock albums out there.

Gotta love 'em.

Artful Kisser said...

It's in Melbourne CBD - round the corner from ACDC Lane - so named in honour of the vid.

Verdant Earl said...

Holly - I kinda dig Pink Floyd.

Faiqa - not at all. Joan is the shit.

Mist - totally agreed.

AK - very cool.

AC/DC has always been one of my favorite bands of all time. The "Powerage" album gets played very often here. That video for "It's a Long Way" was classic.
