Anonymous

So there has been a nuisance I have been dealing with recently here on my blog.

Just about every day, I receive a comment from "Anonymous", which I normally don't mind.  Anonymous folks need love too.

But these comments are in a foreign language. I'm not adept at Asian languages, but the characters look like they could be Chinese or Korean. I just don't know for sure.  What I do know is that they are filled with links to sites that would probably infect your computer with cooties if you allowed them to.

So I delete the comments.

Every. Single. Day.

I'm beginning to get annoyed by this persistent spammer.

It's only one comment a day and it's pretty easy to delete, but this person/spambot has bombed me with spam on a greater magnitude in the past.  And I took the time to slowly delete every single comment.  It sucked.

So I'm getting to the point where enough is enough.  I don't want to have to resort to using word verification or (gasp!) comment moderation.  I fucking hate word verification and hate isn't a strong enough word for how I feel about comment moderation.  Takes a big ole slice of fun out of blogging, if you ask me.  Plus I'm not even sure that word verification would work.  He/She/It seems to be taking the time to come here every day, once a day to post some indecipherable spam, so maybe word verification wouldn't even slow them down.

So I ask you, dear readers, for assistance.  What would you suggest?  Is there a way to prevent commenters from using links in the Blogger comment form? I mean, is there a way to dissallow the use of that particular html code in there?  Because that would work fine for me.  And I think it would stop this Anonymous douchebag from leaving his fucking spam all over my blog.  (Note: Feel free to respond as well, oh Anonymous one.  But I only read English and a little Spanish and French, so please try to respect those boundaries)

First off, I would be sure to drink your ovaltine. Once your secret decoder ring arrives in the mail, you can crowd around your family's radio. Don't be late, you wouldn't want to miss the end of the Orphan Annie program. Using your ring to decode the secret message will not only predict what each day's anonymous message will say, but also the author's address. I don't want to tell you what to do with that information, but it could involve sticking a Red Ryder BB Gun in the offender's fudging face!

There is nothing else for it sir, word verification, no matter how vile and user-unfriendly it is, is the only answer.

A 6 week spell should break the hold on your blog fae the spam-bots.

I used to reply to all my spam mail with a wonderful trojan that was created for me.

Half of Nigeria must have cursed my eyes at some point.

I don't like comment moderation, which considering I use it is bizarre, but I had no choice I had the same problem and when I turn it off, I get spammed again.
sorry only choices is the word thing or moderate

Just don't allow anonymous comments. Require them to be logged in.

WLC - you'll shoot your eye out, kid.

Jimmy - I'm not so sure WV would work, but I'm willing to give it a go if that is what it takes.

Steph - wouldn't that be nice.

Rachel - I can't do the comment moderation. I just can't. It's not for me.

Avitable - that might work, but this spammer occasionally creates usernames just so they can post their spam. And then they immediately delete the username. But that could be a start. Still, I'd prefer another solution if one exists.

Usually the only comments I get are anonymous. No one wants to admit they visit Baxojayz - Centricity except for a few brave souls.

Ah, good ol' "Anonymouse", lol !

Dude, comment moderation and word verification both SUCK.

I'm with Avitable - just block anonymouse comments in your blog settings. In due time, setting up a temp log in name will get old for this pain in the ass.

Sorry - I have no help.

I vote for word verification for a time. You could always turn it off later.

2abes - I wonder if I banned Anonymous posting would it stop you from posting because you don't have an account.

Bobby - I think I need to stop by Centricity. Just to find out what Baxojayz means.

Heff - so far, that is the best suggestion.

Sybil - S'okay. I dig the sympathy.

J.Hi - I'm gonna try Avitable's suggestion first, but that is next.

Slyde - "But I'm pretty sure they are Asian. They were speaking a different language...I'm pretty sure it was Asian."

Candy - That's one way to look at it.

Anon - thanks, spammer-dude. You made my decision for me.

Savannah - gonna try blocking anonymous comments first. Sorry kids, it's Open ID for you.
