One last grasp at Summer

I know that the calendar says Autumn, but we are going to pretend it is Summer for one last weekend and head out to Montauk with some friends.  But if it winds up being a bit chilly there is always a nice bonfire on the beach.

For those of you who have never been there, Montauk is a little beach town at the far east end of Long Island's south fork.  It's in the same neighborhood as the hoity-toity Hamptons, but a million miles away in terms of attitude.   It's just a shame that you have to drive through the Hamptons to get there.

And another thing...they have a particularly nice lighthouse.

Hoping for sunshine and ice-cold cocktails.

Cheers!

My wife has been there several times and insists that I must go there. Perhaps some day.

Wil - it's a great little town with awesome beaches.

Paticus - the train takes forever! That was a great film, though.

Candy - will do.

Uncool - or a cold toddy. I just want a toddy. ;)

Have fun! Lighthouses are good value - as well as being blatantly phallic.

Jus sayin

That sounds like a fabulous place to spend a weekend! Have fun!

Slyde - well, just wandering around the pine barrens at dusk was a silly thing for you to do.

Wabbit - phallic? I don't see it. Wait...no, there it is! :)

Paige - It's a great little village. Thanks!

I made a few sculptures of that famous lighthouse back in the day.

This morning was the first time in 8 months that it was actually 'cool' on our front porch, so much so, that I had to put on sweat shirt to drink my monring cup of Joe out there. I won't miss the 100+ degree heat when it is gone this year. (Especially since it is supposed to be 104 here on Saturday)

I've really started to get into the romance of lighthouses lately.

Of course, my fear of heights prevents me from ever climbing even one step inside, but that doesn't mean I can't look up at it from the beach.

It's the best viewpoint anyway.

Enjoy your weekend.

Wow, that photograph looks too gorgeous to be real! I googled Montauk just now and something came up about the Montauk monster. What's that about?

Verdant Earl said...

Faiqa - that was a phony cryptid that "washed up on the beach" out in Montauk and somebody scurried away with it. It was most likely a dead raccoon that had decomposed.
