Up is down

I'm the guy that was so affected by Jaws when I was a wee lad that I never go swimming in the ocean. Never.

And here I was this weekend, on a cool Autumn day...jumping in the ocean.

I only stayed in for a moment. Ducked under a wave and then came right out. And I hadn't even started drinking yet. It just felt like something that needed to be done.

I may even post some pics from the weekend once my buddy (who smells like a wet dog) and/or his wife sends them to me.

Then again...I may not.

The sea is the onl;y place to swim but the following are essentials:

1. The sea should be warm and clear - Caribbean and Mediterranean good for this.

2. Sunny is also essential.

3. You have a snorkel on

4. Lots of pretty underwater things to look at

5. No sharks or other nasties. I remember swimming of Greek coast with boxes 1-4 all ticked. I look down and about 18 inches below me is a sodding great jellyfish...

DON'T PANICCCCCC!!!!!!!!

Wabbit - Since, in my head, all the bodies of salt water in the world have sharks and other nasties...I can usually tick them off my list of "places where I would swim".

Candy - or swimming pools.

Sybil - It hasn't happened here yet, so I wouldn't hold my breath. ;)

Slyde - I'm positively glowing right now. Way too much sun for this white boy on Saturday.

I grew up in a beach town and had several friends who were lifeguards. Most of them told me that if I saw what they saw from their lifeguard stands, I wouldn't get anywhere *near* the ocean. Sharks. Lots of them.

But, hey. Good for you. ;)

Faiqa - I love when folks with common sense start rattling off statistics to me about shark attacks. About how low the percentage is of getting attacked. I always say my percentage is zero, because I just avoid the ocean all together. Saturday was an extremely rare exception to the rule and it lasted about 15 seconds.

i equate swimming in the ocean with getting your hand bitten off by a loose seal... a la Arrested Development.

Diva - I've got to sit down and watch that show one of these days.

Heff - as most adults do. Me? Not so much.

Savannah - EXACTLY!

Duder - So is it so clear that I can see the killing machines coming to get me from 100 yards away?
