Webtastic!

So I gotta give credit where credit is due. Grudgingly, but I will do it.

Slyde told me about The Guild starring Felicia Day a long, long time ago.  It's a web series about a hilarious group of role-playing video gamers and the hi-jinx that ensue when they finally all meet in real life.

Check out the first episode right here.  It will only take you a few minutes, lazy-bones!

Now I've never played any online role playing games like Worlds of Warcraft, but I still find this stuff to be extremely funny. Because I know people like this.  I'm betting some of you do as well.

If you found that first episode to be amusing (and damn you if you didn't!), then you can watch the rest of the episodes from the first two seasons on either the Guild Youtube channel or on their website.  Season 3 is being first-run on the X-Box and Microsoft's MSN website.  But you can go to Felicia Day's blog and catch up there. She just posted the 8th episode titled "+10 to Bravery" last night.  Another awesome entry in the series.

And while you are at it, her favorite little gnome has been writing and producing his own web series called The Legend of Neil that is pretty damned funny as well!  They just wrapped the second season over there.  And Felicia Day guest-stars in a handful of episodes as the horny fairy who somehow manages to have sex with the main character despite her diminutive size.  Quite a bit different from her role as Codex/Cyd Sherman on The Guild. Check it out!

Now, here is The Guild music video "Do You Want to Date My Avatar?".  Enjoy!

In the world of gamers, the auld saying is "The divil makes work for idle thumbs."

Which is all very well if you're the age of twenty something, and your thumbs are the size of detached bungalows.

Besides... I'm still currently negotiating the miniscule buttons on my youngest daughters Wii.

That is pretty funny! I'd seen her tweeting about it for a while now but never got around to checking it out.

Jimmy - I've tried the Wii and decided that I am too old to "get it". Plus, I hate the interface.

Avitable - Slyde has been telling me about it for over a year, but I only got around to watching it a few weeks ago. Brilliant!

im STILL fucking astonished that you can appreciate this series... its got SO many inside-gamer jokes that i never thought you'd have any interest in it...

Slyde, I think many of the jokes have become mainstream, because I've never played a MMO and haven't touched an RPG since college and I thought it was hilarious, too.

Slyde - what Avitable said.

Avitable - what you said. :)

This online series is the worst.

Doggie - Don't even start with me today. I know you are a secret Guild fan in your black heart. ;)

I starting watching just when season 1 was complete. I can't recall if I finished season 2 or not -- I'll have to go check later. Very good series. I tried The Legend of Neil, but I didn't like it as much.

I'd never heard of this. Loved the clip you posted; I'll check out the rest!

Ren - I could see that. But I at least played Legend of Zelda back in the day so I got some of the obscure references.

Mist - Cool beans!

I don't dare start watching this or I will get hooked. It appears to be just to damn realistic.

As an old school dungeon player, before the days of video games and broadband, the whole concept was to meet face to face and interact with your imagination....sort of prepared me for endless boring business meetings, only with broadswords and magic arrows. The whole concept losses its value with you can hide behind and Avatar.
