Things I'm boycotting - part 1

Congress.

Yeah, I know. How does one go about boycotting Congress? I don't know, but I'm gonna try.

First they held hearings about steroid use in baseball. While we were at fucking war! I know there are some idiots out there who feel that this is exactly what Congress should be doing with their time, but I'm not one of those idiots. I'm an idiot for other reasons.

Now there is a Congressman from Texas named Joe Barton who announced that he intends to initiate a bill that would prohibit the marketing, promotion and advertising of a postseason college football game as a "national championship" unless it is the direct result of a playoff system. This is his way for Congress to get involved in the NCAA National Championship discussion.

What.
The.
Fuck!

Doesn't Congress have enough to do with, ya know, the fucking economic crisis going on right now!!! This is utter crap! And I'm one of those that really cares about the BCS mess going on right now. It's a huge issue for me. Just not an issue that I want my Congress or my President getting involved in. It's sports! It's entertainment! It's not that big of a deal.

Ugh. The sheer stupidity of this is making my head ache. I'm going to bed.

I agree it's amazing that politicians can express interest in banal things when there are a number of major issues to deal with. Thanks for a great post with your usual sense of humor.

Or let's discuss the U of M trying to get a liquor license for the new statium to sell beer at our college games. Mind you, its only for the "Rich" people that buy the club box seats. $1,800-$3,000 a season or the private boxes $10,000-$45,000. Don't they have kids they should be teaching besides worrying about selling beer at a game that last a max of 3 hours? I swear! Don't get me wrong I LOVE BEER, but I buy the $20 seats

Happy Friday!

I'm with you. As much as I'd like to see a true national championship, it's tough to stomach our legislators bringing up sports topics when our country is in the shape it's in.

Well said. Hasn't this BCS mess been going on long before Congress decides to stick it's nose in it??
Pu-leassse, they should stick to shit they know-or at least they think they know. Whatever that may be.
Aren't there the gods of National Champion College Football that should be handling that stuff??

Pretty ridiculous. I couldn't agree more.

Expat - crazy, huh?

MikeB - Oh, I think baseball and football are mucho importante, but just not on the Congressional level.

Michelle - Thank you for concurring.

Jenn - The NCAA used to have a ruling that no alcohol could be served, period, at any NCAA sanctioned event. I guess they are changing that for the wealthy, eh?

ajooja - and you know this guy is doing it to get his name mentioned in the papers rather than for any real change.

Avitable - I dig almost all things Texas. Except G.W. Bush and the Cowboys, that is. :)

Candy - Yeah, but the problem is that so much money is tied up in the major bowls that the NCAA or the bowls themselves don't want any change. THAT is the only reason there isn't a playoff. Still, Congress shouldn't be involved in sports matters.

Heff - right on.

They supply coffee and hot chocolate but not tea at my work. Is there some sort of law I can have congress to pass for me so that I can get tea provided for me at work?

Verdant Earl said...

Faiqa - oh yeah, it's a shit show.

Slyde - I'm the only idiot running this blog. Wait, what?

Ookami - If they can make the time for this bullshit, then they certainly have the time for tea.

Lets not forget, Congress also gave us Valentine's Day, Father's Day and Mother's Day......................................................and I am sure the lobbyists at Hallmark got a big fat Christmas bonus for those.
