33 Years Old

No, not me. I got a decade on this baby here.

It was March 18th of 1977 when The Clash released their first single "White Riot". In a stunning move, The Clash had earlier "sold out" by signing a £100,000 contract with CBS Records. Remarkable really, since they had only played around 30 times together as a band and only a few times as a headliner.

"It ain't punk. It ain't new wave. It's just rock and roll." - Mick Jones

Well you knew you'd get me on this one... March 18th of 1977 I was 23.

In late 76 I escaped the alien body thetan cult by hitchhiking with $14 in my pocket from DC to Chicago at the onset of winter, jut before Christmas.

On the way back home I had one pervert start talking to me about "what boys do" and I think I broke his arm. I had another guy with a station wagon full of his stuff. He was leaving town and dropped me off all of a sudden like because he didn't like me anymore. Then he circled back and followed me down the highway in his car - going off and coming back on the interstate till he just gave up. That was weird.

I got home and everybody who was still in town was listening to stupid ass disco shit. Everybody else was dead or gone.

There was only one thing to do... ask myself "Are you going backwards
Or are you going forwards?"

RW - Decided to take over instead of taking orders, eh?

Doggie - That's over on Avenue A. We should make a pilgrimage.

Sybil - I was a bit too young to love them in '77 too, but by 1980 I was down with The Clash. Big time.

I associate all my formative growing up years in college with this band....them and Steely Dan. When I am 5lbs of ash in a little cremation container, I am still going to have Train in Vain running through my head.
