Earl's favorite film scenes: Volume III

It's been a while since I've done one of these. Too long.  And the nice thing is that it is good blog fodder for a lazy Friday.  In honor of the rapid approach of Opening Day, a short and sweet classic (neo?) from A League of Their Own

Enjoy!

That's actually not my favorite scene from the movie, but it's certainly up there as the funniest.  My actual favorite scene can be seen here in this much longer clip.  The whole 10 minutes or so is great, but my favorite part starts at 6:08 of the clip and runs pretty much to the end.

"It's supposed to be hard.  If it wasn't hard everyone would do it.  The 'hard' is what makes it great." - Jimmy Dugan.

He was talking about baseball, people.  Sheesh...the dirty minds on some of you!

Never listen to anything anyone named Jimmy says! They'll tell a girl anything to get at her dugout.

it's that time, isn't it, sugar? after the MITM watches the super bowl, we'll pull out all the baseball favorites! xoxoxo

Jimmy Dugan: Oh, you zip it, Doris! Rogers Hornsby was my manager, and he called me a talking pile of pigshit. And that was when my parents drove all the way down from Michigan to see me play the game. And did I cry?
Evelyn Gardner: No, no, no.
Jimmy Dugan: Yeah! NO. And do you know why?
Evelyn Gardner: No...
Jimmy Dugan: Because there's no crying in baseball. THERE'S NO CRYING IN BASEBALL! No crying!

This comes in handy during the Little League season.

I've never seen this movie because Tom Hanks hasn't done anything worthwhile with his career since Bachelor Party.

Jimmy - I love a good dugout joke!

Savannah - After this one, Bull Durham is probably my favorite.

Holly - I told you to skip ahead to the 6:08 mark!

Limpy - Hanks was brilliant in this film.

WLC - You're forgetting The Da Vinci Code and Angels and Demons. I still haven't decided if I like those movies better or the National Treasure movies with Nic Cage. Tough choice. /sarcasm

If the dog person didn't see the movie how does the dog person know Hanks hasn't done anything worthwhile with his career since Bachelor Party? I'm funcused...

Verdant Earl said...

RW - Because the dog person is a sarcastic muthafucka and he uses my comment section to let it out. He's a good egg, mostly. Even if he is bailing me out in my time of need this weekend.

it really IS a good movie. I'd have to say that this movie, and The Natural, are the only 2 baseball movies that i like.

Verdant Earl said...

Slyde - Wow! The rare non-snide comment from you. And praise for baseball movies too! I may faint.

Yeah, i just clicked before I saw your instructions to go to the 6.08 mark. so, really, not your fault.

BUT

you did bring up some very awesome blog fodder I believe. ;)

I've got to admit that I've never seen this movie before. Even though I've lived here for over a decade now, Baseball was never an American sport I got into. Wow, that was random. What I meant to say was: ...so I'll go rent that movie and watch it now that I've seen a clip. Yeah, that's it.

Are you SURE that line was about baseball ???

Water Logged Canine said...

What do you mean "mostly?"

Mostly....

Gonna get ghostly...

TV Talk Show Host-ly...

What up wit dat? What up wit dat?

I've been singin' that all day.

As for this weekend...don't you give up on me...yet.

Don't care for the film that much (Rosie O'donnell and Madonna...ugh)but the scene where Tom Hanks take the leak that last forever is pretty sweet.

That is a GREAT clip!!!
I wish I could do that to so many kids, so many days...
Ahem. I mean, all children are special gifts from God!
Whatever.

Come on Slyde, who in their right mind likes the Natural?? Redford changed the ending of the book to be Redford-friendly, and there's no forgiving vanity. GREAT book.

Water Logged Canine said...

The Natural is one of those few movies that is WAY better than the book. Vanity or not, kudos to Redford...kudos I say.

Verdant Earl said...

Holly - it's never my fault.

Kevin - it's not a bad place to start when it comes to baseball movies.

Heff - not 100%.

WLC - then you would be able to eradicate the mostly. OK?

Bruce - different strokes. I thought Rosie and Madonna were outstanding in their small roles.

Sybil - no, you had it right first.

badger - I honestly liked the film better than the book. "Say it ain't so, Roy"...c'mon!

Verdant Earl said...

WLC - see? Now we are on the same page.

So you have to have an erection to play basketball? Not sure I'm getting the hang of this...

Is that a baseball bat in your hands or are you just pleased to see me?

baseball I mean not basketball
