Last year I live-blogged the Oscars using a widget from Cover It Live. It was hella fun. OK...maybe not, but it was a hella distraction. At least for the 4-5 people who showed up and participated.
So I'm thinking of doing it again, but it all depends on you. My faithful sycophants. Is anyone interested in joining me here for the excitement? Let me know in the comments and if 4-5 of you are into it then I will accommodate. You are gonna owe me though.
That is, of course, if my cable provider doesn't dump ABC from it's service on Sunday before the telecast. Could happen. Disney, the parent company of ABC, and Cablevision are having a real nasty to-do over $40 million that Cablevision wants to charge Disney for retransmission charges. I have no idea what that means, but it sounds technical. The TV commercial battle has been particularly brutal. I imagine executives from each company stroking their long-haired Persian cats while mwuh-ha-ha-ing at us lowly peasants.
No big whoop for me if I can't watch the Oscars live. I'll just drink a few bacon bourbon cocktails (bacon drink) and watch a movie instead. As long as they resolve their issues before next week's episode of Lost.

It's a cool idea to liveblog it, and I enjoyed reading it after the fact, so I say do it if you still have ABC. I won't tell you that basically what you'll be doing is Twittering, because that might turn you off of the whole idea!
Our "provider" (this is a new word to me since I remember when TV was free, had less channels and better choices... er... anyway...) is Comcast who is making a play to own NBC last I heard. I don't know what that will mean eventually. Do we end up with one provider for every possible station thirty years from now? I don't know. All I know is I have hundreds of channels of absolute shit and watch TV less now than ever in my life.
Which isn't exactly what your post is about but... you know... you sort of inspired me there.
there is NO WAY in Hell that we will lose ABC this weekend. Bank on it.
Cablevision is in a death-battle with Verizon right now, and they know damn well that if they remove ABC then long island will pole-vault over to Fios.
No, they'll pay ABC whatever they ask, then pass the cost over to us in our monthly bills.
Avitable - No, their is a huge fundamental difference between the live blog template and Twitter. As far as I know, a handful of people can't set up a "room" in Twitter just for them to bandy back and forth on something. It's open for anyone and everyone who follows them, right? This is more of an invite-only, controlled environment. Kinda like the old private chat rooms of yore. And it won't fill up anyone's Twitter feed who doesn't give a damn about it. Dig?
RW - Bruce Springsteen sang about "57 Channels and Nothing On" decades ago. Now it's like 757 channels and still nothing on.
Slyde - You have it backward. ABC owes Cablevision $40 million, which ABC claims we the customers already pay. Something like a dollar a household. But yeah...it'll get resolved.

That's what great about Twitter. You can put a hashtag (#) and the word Oscars for example then you people can read what you're writing live.

I loved the live blog last year...and can't wait to do it again. If...per chance...ABC doesn't work out the kinks...just bring yo' ass and yo' bacon drink over to my place. I remember last year well, it was alotta fun... except when my lap top almost died on me and I had to shut down. I'll try and log on Sunday night if you do it.. I'll be coming home from my weekly gig at some point.. though it is my freaking birthday, so I may not. Or I may be really drunk. Either way, I say do it!
