Have any of you heard of the Internet dating (?) site with the oh-so-sweet sounding name called The Ashley Madison Agency? Me neither, but that's not too hard to believe since I have my head firmly stuck up my ass most of the time.I first started hearing about it a few weeks ago as radio ads on The Opie and Anthony Show on XM Radio. Maybe because it was a radio ad...the easiest form of advertisement to ignore...but I didn't actually pay attention to what the site is all about until just a few days ago.
It's basically a personals/dating site for married or committed folks who want to cheat on their significant other.
Their tagline is "Life is short. Have an affair."
I guess it was only a matter of time before some entrepreneurial group of individuals created something like this. Maybe Craig's List just wasn't cutting it for some people.
Personally, this sickens me. I guess if you have an open relationship and both individuals agree to the specifics of the deal, then fooling around with someone outside of your partnership is okay. But clearly, those folks aren't the target demographic of this site. At least according to the advertising, which states that it is designed for discreet relationships.
Sure there is money to be made with an operation such as this. There are also hearts to be broken. I guess if you are planning on cheating or thinking about cheating then this is just a tool that you would use like a singles bar, a business trip or those back-of-the-magazine ads. Something you would have done anyway. I dunno...something really bothers me about it though.
I hope these bottom-feeding assholes sleep well at night, and I hope that their parents use the site to break the hearts of their loved ones. That's how I enjoy my irony.
PS - Everyone give a warm round of applause to Lizzie for beating out yours truly in Ookami Snow's contest. Way to go, Liz!
