Sporcle
I don't know who out there recommended the trivia site Sporcle to me (or the larger blogosphere, to be more precise), but I either want to thank you or kill you.
It's become my pre-sleep habit for going on a month now. Every night before bed, I check out the new quizzes on Sporcle for that day. And sometimes I'll browse the archives, but I usually wind up on the site for a good half-hour or so before calling it quits for the day. Probably not the best idea for someone who has trouble falling asleep in the first place, but whatever.
They've got some great stuff on there. And a lot of it is more a test of your memory than it is actual trivia, but I dig it just the same. Trying to name all the countries of the world by looking at a blank map made me realize that I know nothing about Africa and the former Soviet satellite nations. Or how to spell shit properly. And that ticking clock doesn't help jog your memory at all. Quite the opposite. Even easy stuff like naming the characters on The Office become frustrating when you are under the guy. I couldn't remember Stanley's name! And he's probably my favorite character on the show!
So yeah...thanks. Whomever you are.
Do you Sporcle?

"Great party, isn't it?"
I haven't done one of these in a while. A good ole fun movie quote trivia game. Impress your fellow readers and, most importantly, me by guessing which movie these quotes are from. I'll post the correct responses as the day progresses and tomorrow I'll post the answers for the ones that no one gets. Fun, fun, fun!!! Oh, and there is a theme this time around...
- 1) "Something that one lives with like an albatross round the neck. No, more like a millstone. A plumbing stone, by God! Damn them all!" The Fog
- 2) "Just look at the face: it's vacant, with a hint of sadness. Like a drunk who's lost a bet." Shaun of the Dead
- 3) "Suicide is like... the ultimate fuck you." Ginger Snaps - White Rabbit
- 4) "What's the matter, kid? Don't ya like clowns?" The Devil's Rejects - Dave2
- 5) "I'm going to do something now they used to do in Vietnam. It's called making a head on a stick." Wolf Creek
- 6) "What the hell is this blue jelly shit all over my shit?" The Blair Witch Project
- 7) "Where we're going... we don't need eyes to see!" Event Horizon
- 8) "I don't know, my parents told me never to breathe anything from strangers." Night of the Comet
- 9) "She's gonna cry, then I'm gonna cry, and we're all gonna cry!" The Craft
- 10) "Caleb, those people back there, they wasn't normal. Normal folks, they don't spit out bullets when you shoot 'em, no sir." Near Dark - badgerdaddy
- 11) "If you were going to take over the world, would you blow up the White House 'Independence Day' style, or sneak in through the back door?" The Faculty - Slyde
- 12) "I HATE a guy with a car and no sense of humor." Halloween - Poppy
- 13) "This isn't the Republicans versus the Democrats, where we're in a hole economically or... or we're in another war. This is more crucial than that. This is down to the line, folks, this is down to the line. There can be no more divisions among the living!" Dawn of the Dead (original) - badgerdaddy
- 14) "A man walks into a bar with a giraffe. They both get pissed. The giraffe falls over. The man goes to leave and the bartender says, "Oi. You can't leave that lyin' there." And the man says, "No. It's not a lion. It's a giraffe."" 28 Days Later
- 15) "Okay hard drinkers, let's drink hard. I'm buyin'" From Dusk 'Til Dawn - Sybil Law
- 16) "No tracks, no sign, no spoor... you'd think after eating all those sheep they'd have to take a dump *some*place" Tremors - Slyde
- 17) "I feel like the proto-human coming out of the forest primeval and seeing the moon for the first time and throwing rocks at it." Poltergeist
- 18) "Reach anybody? We're a thousand miles from nowhere, man. And it's gonna get a hell of a lot worse before it gets any better!" The Thing - badgerdaddy

Hey, Trivia Hipsters!
Two things of note happened today in the ole Bug-Eyed Trivia Challenge.
So keep on keeping on!
In other news, HOLY SHIT IT'S MAY ALREADY!
- Badgerdaddy won his first monthly title ever!
- Heady with the taste of victory, he will be taking over the hosting duties of the trivia quiz as of tomorrow, May 1st.
So keep on keeping on!

Quick reminder
A brand new month, a brand new trivia challenge. Limpy managed to eke out a victory last month over me in a highly-contested duel of half-wits. See what the rest of you can do...what with your fully functioning brains and all. Sheesh!
Also, be sure to leave some suggestions in the comments here for Wednesday topics.
Note: Remember to play the Bug-Eyed Trivia Challenge every day. Be there and be square.

New Year...new trivia
Well, it's officially 2010. Sigh.
But enough about that. Since today is the first of the month and the first day of the new year (and decade depending on your definition of that) I just wanted to remind you about the Bug-Eyed Trivia Challenge. Yeah, I know that I should probably rename it the Verdant Trivia Challenge or something, but let's not quibble.
This month the schedule is as follows:
Sunday - History 1: Easier
Monday - Music 2: Intermediate
Tuesday - Sports: Baseball: Difficult
Wednesday - Custom Trivia Challenge (see below)
Thursday - World Trivia: UK
Friday - Movies 3: Difficult
Saturday - Literature 1: Easier
Yeah, yeah, yeah...I'm doing baseball trivia on Tuesdays this month. Screw it. It's only gonna be 4 days out of the month so suck it up people. And I know nothing about UK trivia, but I included that because we have a few players from over there and the rest of the trivia is very American-centric. I'll be mixing up the categories every month, so this is only for January.
Since today is the day for starting your resolutions, perhaps one of them should be to play my trivia game every day. One of these months someone is gonna be the top dog other than Limpy or myself. Right, badgerdaddy?
Oh, and one more thing. Wednesdays are Prince Spaghetti Day. I mean Custom Trivia Challenge Day. So leave me some suggestions here for upcoming Wednesdays. Pick anything. Anything at all. Some stuff might be too general or too specific for me to use, but you never know.
Note: Remember to play the Bug-Eyed Trivia Challenge every day. I'm stoked for Tuesdays.

Hey, it's November!
Why not give my Bug-Eyed Trivia Challenge a try?
Our arch-nemesis, Limpy, squeaked out a one-point victory once again in October even after missing a few days. Didn't help that the rest of us missed some days in there as well. It pays to be vigilant. Or horny. Something like that.
So, um, yeah. Trivia! I'm so excited!
Note: Remember to play the Bug-Eyed Trivia Challenge every day. None of the cool kids are doing it. Sigh.

August Trivia Begins
Once again, a new Bug-Eyed Trivia Challenge begins.
And once again, we congratulate Limpy on winning for the month of July.
That makes 5 months in a row that The Limp One has beat us all. Well, there was a tie in there as well, by you get my drift.
He promises to be on vacation away from a computer for a portion of the upcoming month. Likely story. But that opens the gates for the rest of us. A key to winning is playing every day. I think that in July only Limpy and I played all 31 days and he finished first while I finished second. It isn't rocket science. Oooh, that would be a fun category for Wednesdays!
Speaking of Wednesdays, I need some custom topic suggestions from y'all. Pick something you know tons of shit about. For example, Slyde could pick Judy Garland films or Clay Aiken albums. He would own us all on those.
So fire away!
Note: Remember to play the Bug-Eyed Trivia Challenge every day. See what I did with Slyde there?

Get off yer asses!
In case you missed the tab at the top of this page or the footnote on the bottom of every fucking post I write, I host a Trivia game online. Today starts a new tournament so it is probably a good time for all you lurkers to join on in. That is if you aren't a-scared!
May's winner was Limpy...again.
Limpy has won three months in a row (including a tie with me in March) now and he needs to be unseated. Do you think you have it in you? You probably don't, but I'm asking anyway.
I've changed around some of the daily topics for June and I am always looking for suggestions for Wednesday's custom trivia day. Everyone should get a shot at excelling at their own particular trivia speciality. RW is getting Baseball trivia from the Deadball era later this month and badgerdaddy is getting Premier League Soccer after that.
How about the rest of you kids? Suggest a topic that you and only you will excel at, for one day at least. Heff, howabout Playboy magazine? Avitable, what about Superman or Avril Lavigne? Slyde, maybe some Clay Aiken trivia? You know you would kick ass!
Monthly Winners thus far
May 2009 - Limpy 268 points (4 wins)April 2009 - Limpy 282 points (6 wins)
March 2009 - Limpy 313 points (7 wins)/Me 313 points (7 wins)
February 2009 - Me 270 points (4 wins)
January 2009 - Me 243 points (3 wins)
December 2008 - Me 242 points (5 wins)

Note: Remember to play the Bug-Eyed Trivia Challenge every day. You can't keep letting Limpy and I win it every single month, can you? ;)

Just curious
I was just a little curious about a few things pertaining to the daily trivia quiz I have been hosting.
Note: Remember to play the Bug-Eyed Trivia Challenge every day. Is anyone reading this?
- Do I need to keep reminding everyone about it via the footnote down there on every one of my posts? I'm pretty sure someone said they were using that as a reminder, but I also have a tab for it on the top of my header pic. I have it set up as a template, so I'm not typing that or cutting and pasting it everyday. So it isn't a big deal to keep it there. I was just wondering.
- Does anyone out there notice that I change the second sentence in that footnote on every new post? I put almost no work into it, but dammit I want to know that someone notices!
- Is anyone interested in taking over the hosting duties for the month of June? The site allows the administrator, me, the option of turning over that responsibility to someone else. I still enjoy doing it, but if anyone else wants to run it for a month, please let me know. It's not very hard. All you have to do is pick the daily topics and, with the help of suggestions from the madding crowd, a custom topic for each Wednesday.

Trivia odds and end
OK, we are in the third day of our Trivia Challenge. You see the link up there at the tip of my sidebar...so fucking click it already and register! OK...here is the link if you don't want to travel to the sidebar. Sheesh! Lazy much?
Anyway, here is how it is scored:
* 100 Points for every question right for a maximum initial score of 1,000.
* Subtract the number of seconds it took you to finish the quiz from your initial score and that is your final score.
* Top 10 finishers are given bonus points.
That's it.
Now, the other quiz I play in is tailored around easier questions all week. Many days a bunch of the participants wind up with 10/10 on the quiz and the finishes are determined by the time it took. This is OK, but the questions are often so easy its retarded.
So I tailored this quiz to include more difficult questions. And today's quiz proved that. I had to guess on at least half of them. Badly. So let me know what you prefer. Easy questions where it becomes a race against time or more difficult questions that you may have to guess on a bunch of them. I prefer the latter.
Cheers, and have a great weekend!
PS - Remember to play every day. You are hoping to win my admiration. Don't let me down.

Bug-Eyed Trivia
I've been playing this trivia game every day through somebody's blog out there for a while now. I honestly don't remember who turned me on to it. It's frustrating because you have to answer fast to score well, and my brain doesn't work that fast anymore.
So I figured I would share that frustrations with y'all.
Announcing....
Here's what you do. Clicky on that linky above. Register, and then come and play everyday. That's it. I've started out by making it about movies, general knowledge and music. But I can change all that anytime I or we want. Up to you. Up to us, really. Just as long as a bunch of you play. I'll eventually tailor it to more specific topics, but for right now this is what you got.
What's at stake? My admiration.
That should be enough.
