The Dock is In!

So all you need to know about this brilliant animated short from James Blagden is that there was a pitcher for the Pittsburgh Pirates named Dock Ellis who pitched a no-hitter back in 1970 while on LSD.  One of my favorite all-time baseball stories.

And who said drugs were a recent problem with baseball?

UPDATE: Amazing how this happens, but a dude who smells like a wet dog just told me that today (yesterday) is the birthday of LSD!  Seriously...it was first synthesized on November 16, 1938.  Far out!

I like how the "hallucinogenic" properties weren't discovered until 5 years later. Begs a few questions:

1. What were they doing with it for 5 years?

2. How did they "discover" its trippy nature?

3. Why is that pile of dust in the corner buzzing?

4. I'm not paranoid. Are they still after me?

I always thought this was an urban legend. This is great.

And I love how the video was put together too.

My favorite part is when he says, "I was high as a Georgia pine."

I love that. :D

Sybil - Dock Ellis was a unique soul.

Doggie - To answer question #2, he accidentally absorbed some thru his skin. Then he decided to take a full dose and ride his bicycle home. On a day that will forever be remembered as "Bicycle Day". You can't make this stuff up.

Zibbs - I spent some time on that artist's website and I'm hooked. He is brilliant! And yes...true story.

Seals - Hey! Long time! I love that part too, but I love the "Well, what happened to yesterday?" part. Cracked me up.

Let's bake it a cake.

And put on paper hats.

And sing 'happy birthday to youuuuuuuuuu...

happy birthday dear 9,10-Didehydro-N,N-diethyl-6-methylergoline-8ß-carboxamide

Happy birthday to youuuuuuuuu...'

Oh shit, it was yesterday. Maybe a belated birthday card would be ok?

Cricket is supposedly about the only game you can play well stoned - probably baseball would be ok in this respect too. Viv Richards was one of the greatest players the game ever produced and he would go out to bat completely off his face regularly - and murder the bowling.

I remember seeing him on tv and thinking - ummmmm - the whites of his eyes are seriously RED!!!

May the ousnad be with you.

Wabbit - I could see playing cricket on drugs. No wait...I meant I could see watching cricket on drugs. Ah, the old "make fun of the other guy's sport" gambit. I crack myself up.

Candy - Couldn't see the batters...incredible.
