Stuck in a rut

A blogging rut, that is.

A while back, I set some goals for myself.  Every 1st Monday of the month, I was gonna write about a specific issue of a 1970's Marvel comic-book.  Every 2nd Monday, I was gonna do a film review.  Every 3rd Monday, I was gonna do a beer/food review.  Yada yada yada.

I kept to the schedule for about 5 months.  Then I just simply forgot about it.  I didn't run out of ideas or the urge to write about those things.  I just forgot that I gave myself that schedule.  Weird, right?

Then I noticed that about half of my posts for the past few weeks were of the quickie Youtube variety.  A song here, a movie clip there, you know...lazy blogger shit.  I know I don't "have" to blog every day, but I kinda like the flow when I'm into it.  Just need to be into it a bit more, I guess.

I've got a food/booze blog that I've set up, just raring to go.  Got a bunch of folks who seem interested in joining me in that endeavor.  I just have to make a few layout changes and send out the invites.  But I keep stalling.

Maybe it's because of the time of the year.  Summertime makes me want to spend less time online rather than more.  And I've got this baseball radio show thing that takes up a hunk of my free time. That might have been the reason that I forgot about the regular Monday schedule I had set up for myself.  Especially since we usually run the show on Sunday nights.  Hey, that makes a bit of sense.  The timing works too.  I dunno.

All I know is that I opened up a new post tonight to write something and this is what came out.  Maybe just thinking about it will shock my system into gear.

GET YOUR SHIT TOGETHER MAN !!!

just kidding. I think a lot of blogging is cyclical, like the tides and pms. moody.

i get it though...the more in depth writing tends to feed on itself. a groove, if you will.

My blog is nothing BUT "lazy blogger shit!" If it weren't for lazy blogger shit, I'd never post at all.

im not sure why you feel this Rainman-like need to post everyday, even when you've got nothing to say.

It's weird. you're creeping me out a little.

I hit the wall a while ago.

Have I anything to say? Can I be arsed to say it?

i don't think you are in a rut. you just have other shit going on, which tends to happen as the weather is fan fucking tastic these days. write when you feel like writing. don't if you don't. but if you need something to write about, you could write about my butt. (HUGE topic!)
:)

Annabelle - and I lost my groove. Maybe it's in the seat cushion...

Dave2 - Did you ever know that you're my hero, and everything I would like to be?

Paticus - That's it! A rut party! I dig.

Slyde - Phew! I was worried that I had stopped creeping you out a little.

Wabbit - I've noticed that you've been recently re-mojoed. But part of a posting rut is a commenting rut, so there's that. I'll be back.

Becky - Okay, from now on every third Friday of the month will be about your butt. ;)

Understood. Summer is not conducive to blogging. However, drinking is - so next post should be a drunken post.

Hell, I'VE been lax for damn near 6 months now.

Sybil - I haven't blunk-drogged in a while. Might have to take care of that this weekend.

Heff - And you are sorely missed, sir.

Heff said...

Tnx. Thought I was gonna quit Blogger altogether, BUT I JUST CAN'T LEAVE YOU BASTARDS ALONE !!!

Heff - Yeah, you leave us alone and no telling what kind of trouble we are gonna get ourselves into.

Savannah - I have been reading, but I've been lax in commenting. Has to do with the rut. :(

I'm in a slump too. I just feel that in the 9 years that I've been blogging I've said about all I have to say, outside of the usual day-to-day shit that no one really cares about anyway. As a result, my hit counts have gone down by half.

Sometimes I play with the idea of quitting the internet altogether--try to get back to what my life was like (and how much I got accomplished) before it came along.

Steph - Ooooh, quitting the internet is a scary idea for me. I spend so much time there. Wait..that's the general idea, right? I get it. Just don't know if I'm strong enough to do it.

I was just thinking about you the other day, thinking that Dawg, you, and I should get together for Belgian beer.

Montauk. Write about Montauk. With photos. I want to know more about it.

Verdant Earl said...

Poppy - Let's do it to it. Anytime. And I will be heading through Montauk to go to Block Island in three weeks. I can't fucking wait!

Sylde: Oh, I'll never leave. I only think I might when I'm down, or when the trolls begin to wear me out.
