Smart

This was just a little something I was thinking about today, so excuse me if it comes off as either condescending or harsh.

But I am surrounded by stupid people.

Every day. Stupid people at the post office. Stupid people at the grocery store. Stupid people on television. Stupid, stupid, stupid...STUPID!

I get a fair amount of compliments on my intelligence.  I think it's all hogwash, but if folks want to think that I am smarter than I actually am then more power to 'em.  I did well in school, even if I never tried very hard.  I also pick up on things quickly, but I think that is more the power of an imaginative mind than actual smarts.

But all in all I don't think I am any smarter than a normal human should be.  See?  I am pretty sure I screwed up the grammar in that last sentence!  Or one of the sentences in the previous paragraph.  I suck at grammar. Not that grammar alone is any indicator of intelligence.  But it sure doesn't hurt!

Anywho, I decided today that one of the things I enjoy most about blogging is reading what smart folks have to say.  Folks who I have come to believe are smarter than I.  I dig that.  I like surrounding myself with them.  Check them out...they are all over my blogroll over there.  Not gonna mention anyone by name, but you know who you are*.

*No.  It's not you.

And just because I saw these earlier today, here are some images of Christina Hendricks from Mad Men.  Va va va vooom!!!

I think last time I checked, people who win at jeopardy are considered genuises but mostly they are very good at memorizing stuff.

I'll stick with what Ghandi says

"There are limits to how far you can develop the mind, not true with the heart."

word up there.

and holy MOLEY! this mad men, i've heard so much about it.

what is it, and should I be watching it?

My wife has a rather high position within her chosen career, and on occasion she drags me along to the odd office function.
It was quite amusing for me at first when I noticed just how many people decided that a 6ft 5" ape with a broken nose would have the intelligence span of a grape.

It was even more amusing for me when I could answer their terminology in Latin, quote Shakespeare, and even work out which was the fish knife during dinner.

Smart people do not always appear in the shape of a geek. Diversity is often the key to success.

I've just started the second season of Mad Men. Although I'm more a Sopranos or a Deadwood kinda guy, and I thought 24 was the TV equivalent of crack cocaine, I'm really into Mad Men right now.

I get that a bit too, Mr Bastard. I'm built like a... square, I suppose. Short, stocky, like a builder-type. You should see people's faces when I start talking, especially when I'm selling the handbags my wife designs and makes. It's pretty amusing.

And yes, Earl, people are basically pretty stupid. Well, maybe not entirely stupid... perhaps self-absorbed.

Holly - You know, I've never watched it. But I just dig Christina Hendricks from way back. Her Firefly days. Yum.

HollyX2 - well, I wouldn't say "much smarter"... ;)

Jimmy - you're a big guy with some battle scars? I would've never known. ;)

MikeB - I have to check it out one of these days.

Michelle - But you should have seen me in fifth grade. I was a drooling monkey!

badger - you sell handbags now?

Avitable - She was the super-hawtness as Saffron!

2abes - Tell me 'bout it. And I know who you work with every day. :)

A smart man knows that curvy women are where it's at..

Actually, while I appear smart on paper, I really have had to work on social graces, not looking all dumbass and clumsy in public.

Too much living in the head as it were.

Well, that and while in public i am often focused on the wee holler monkees.

hee hee

Slyde - it might. But I'm willing to give it a try. But you have to go first. GO!

Yesterday, the crew and I were talking about IQ versus every day intelligence, blah blah. I cannot stand utter stupidity. It makes my skin crawl, actually.

However, that Christina Hendricks? She makes it crawl in a good way!
