Stan Freberg was something of a radio genius during the late-40s through the 70s...He did a number of novelty songs, but primarily, he was one of the pioneers of the kind of subversive radio comedy later fully developed by the Firesign Theater.
Another sphere of influence was in radio advertising. Do you recall a commercial where a voice-over narration describes a giant bowl with a mountain of ice cream with rivers of chocolate syrup ending with a jet plane flying by and dropping a huge cherry on top of it all? That was Stan Freberg.
